A fourth person remains in detention after a London arson attack on Jewish ambulances

  • A fourth suspect was remanded in custody for attacking Jewish community ambulances in London.
  • The arson attack caused 1 million pounds in damage and targeted the Jewish community.
  • Four defendants are scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey on 24 April.

Judex Atshatshi, an 18 year old from Dagenham, appeared at Westminster magistrates court on Saturday. He faces charges of arson with intent to damage property and endangering life. After confirming his identity during a short hearing, the court ordered that he be remanded in custody.

This arrest followed operations by counter-terrorism detectives at two east London addresses on Thursday. On that same day, another 18 year old was arrested for conspiracy to commit arson. This person was later released on bail until a date in July.

The attack targeted Hatzola, a volunteer ambulance service in Golders Green, on 23 March. Four vehicles were set on fire, causing gas canisters to explode. Prosecutors state the event was a targeted attack against the Jewish community, resulting in 1,000,000 pounds of damage.

Three other suspects were charged in early April. These include Hamza Iqbal, aged 20, and Rehan Khan, aged 19, both from Leyton. A 17 year old from Walthamstow with dual British-Pakistani nationality was also charged with arson and reckless endangerment of life.

Frank Ferguson of the Crown Prosecution Service emphasized that these criminal proceedings are currently active. He stressed the importance of avoiding online commentary or reporting that could prejudice the trial, as all defendants have the right to a fair legal process.

Hatzola provides free emergency aid to everyone in need, regardless of their background. Originally started in New York City during the 1960s, the service operates even on the sabbath to assist any person who calls for help within their area.
