Slot is concerned that the injury suffered by Ekitike is actually very serious

  • Hugo Ekitike suffered a serious injury during a Champions League match against Paris St-Germain.
  • Liverpool manager Arne Slot expressed deep concern regarding the striker’s physical condition.
  • The injury could jeopardize Ekitike’s participation in the upcoming World Cup in North America.

Arne Slot, the manager of Liverpool, believes Hugo Ekitike has a very bad injury. The French forward was forced to leave the field on a stretcher. This occurred during a Champions League game against Paris St-Germain on Tuesday, which Liverpool lost 2-0.

The incident happened 30 minutes into the second leg of the quarter-final. Ekitike was seen in visible pain and clutching his ankle. Consequently, Liverpool were eliminated with a 4-0 aggregate score after the match concluded.

Following the game, Slot admitted the situation looked poor but noted it was hard to determine the exact severity. He mentioned that Ekitike had already returned home before the manager could speak with him or check on him during halftime.

The striker joined from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer and has scored 17 goals in 45 appearances. A long recovery period would be devastating for his chances of joining the France squad for the World Cup in North America.

Teammate Ibrahima Konate also shared his concerns, stating the moment is very difficult for the player. Konate expressed his support through prayers, acknowledging that the timing is terrible with the World Cup approaching soon.

The match featured a rare start for several major signings. Alexander Isak returned to the starting lineup for the first time since early December. However, Slot noted that his key trio has played very few minutes together this season.
