Peter Mandelson faces police inquiry as officers search homes linked to Epstein scandal allegations

Law enforcement authorities are conducting searches at two residential properties linked to Peter Mandelson. The investigation centers on allegations that he disclosed sensitive market information to Jeffrey Epstein, the late financier convicted of child exploitation offenses.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that search operations are underway at locations in both Wiltshire and Camden, north London. Mandelson has resided in Wiltshire following his dismissal as US ambassador, a position he lost due to his documented associations with the disgraced financier.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Hayley Sewart announced that central specialist crime team officers are executing warrants as part of an investigation into potential misconduct in public office. She emphasized that the individual involved, identified as a 72-year-old man, has not been arrested and remains under ongoing inquiry. Officers are specifically seeking electronic devices including phones, computers, and storage media, alongside written documentation.

Mandelson’s removal from the ambassadorial role occurred in September after emerging evidence revealed the depth of his connection to Epstein. Their relationship reportedly extended well beyond Epstein’s 2008 conviction for soliciting a minor for prostitution. Recently disclosed documents indicate financial transfers between them from 2003 to 2004, and suggest Mandelson may have shared confidential business information when serving as business secretary under Gordon Brown in 2009.

The disclosure of these documents has triggered substantial backlash within Labour ranks. Prime Minister Keir Starmer faced parliamentary criticism after acknowledging he had approved the appointment despite prior knowledge of Mandelson’s continued contact with Epstein following the financier’s imprisonment. Some Labour MPs now demand Starmer’s removal and that of Chief of Staff Morgan McSweeney, who maintains close ties to Mandelson and allegedly championed his appointment.
