A body was found in the Duffryn Park area of Blaina Blaenau Gwent. This occurred around 22:10 BST on Monday. A murder investigation has been launched following the disappearance of a girl aged 14. Formal identification hasn’t happened yet but the kin of Lilly were notified.
The police force has kept a presence in the vicinity. They have urged anyone with info to reach out. The family of Lilly had been informed about the discovery. Officers are working to figure out the specifics of how the death happened in this spot.
Police maintain heavy presence in Dyffryn Park
Det Ch Insp Steven Thomas the senior investigating officer, noted the distress felt by locals. He stated, « We understand that this will cause distress and concern amongst our communities. » Officers are available on the ground for folks to talk to regarding the probe.
He further mentioned, « We have a large police presence in the area at this time » as they try to establish the circumstances. He added, « We encourage anyone with information to please speak with us » or use the usual channels for reporting.
Reports from the scene show a heavy police deployment around Dyffryn Park. A blue police tent was spotted about 100m inside the park from the cordon. This area seems to be the main focus for the forensics and investigators during the search.
Police patrols are currently moving through the streets in twos and threes. More boots on the ground are arriving at the park now. Officers have been patrolling the streets as part of the wider effort to secure the perimeter and gather evidence.
