A 19-year-old man was apprehended by the Metropolitan Police on Saturday morning within the premises of Westminster Magistrates Court. Officers identified the suspect while he was attending a legal hearing for three other individuals. This latest arrest follows an investigation into a serious arson incident that targeted medical vehicles in North-West London.
The three original suspects appeared in court wearing grey tracksuits to confirm their personal details. These individuals include 20-year-old Hamza Iqbal and 19-year-old Rehan Khan, both from Leyton, alongside a 17-year-old from Walthamstow. None of the defendants entered a plea during the proceedings. Consequently, the court remanded them in custody while the legal process continues.
The incident occurred on 23 March when 4 ambulances belonging to the Hatzola volunteer service were set ablaze. These vehicles were stationed in the Golders Green area during the early morning hours. The fire triggered explosions of onboard gas canisters, creating a significant hazard. Four suspects were allegedly involved in the execution of this premeditated and targeted assault.
Prosecutors informed the court that the evidence points toward a deliberate attack against the Jewish community. Additionally, investigators are currently examining claims of responsibility purportedly made by a group backed by Iran.
