Jack Draper is set to face Novak Djokovic while maintaining his Indian Wells title run

  • Jack Draper defeated Francisco Cerundolo to set up a match against Novak Djokovic.
  • Cameron Norrie advanced to the fourth round by upsetting sixth seed Alex de Minaur.
  • Djokovic secured his place in the next round after defeating Aleksandar Kovacevic in three sets.

The British tennis contingent enjoyed a productive Monday at Indian Wells as Jack Draper secured a spot in the last 16. The 24 year old delivered a strong 6-1 7-5 victory over Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo, the world number 20. This win moves the British number one closer to defending his title.

Draper now prepares for a high-stakes encounter with Novak Djokovic, who continues his hunt for more silverware. The world number three advanced by overcoming American Aleksandar Kovacevic with a 6-4 1-6 6-4 scoreline. Djokovic has won 24 Grand Slam titles and remains a formidable obstacle for the young Briton in the fourth round.

This tournament marks a significant step for Draper, who recently returned from an 8 month hiatus. An arm injury kept him off the ATP Tour for a long period, making his current form even more impressive. Despite his recent success, the world number 14 admit that he is still building confidence as he returns to full fitness.

Success continued for Great Britain as Cameron Norrie pulled off a major upset against Alex de Minaur. The 27th seed defeated the Australian sixth seed in straight sets, finishing 6-4 6-4. Norrie now looks ahead to a match against Rinky Hijikata, an Australian qualifier who defeated the 10th seed to progress further.

The upcoming match between Draper and Djokovic will be their first meeting since 2021. During that Wimbledon debut, the Briton managed to take a set off the legendary champion. Draper acknowledged the difficulty of the challenge, noting that he must be mentally prepared for the man he considers the greatest player ever.

While the men found success, the British women’s side saw Emma Raducanu exit the tournament earlier. She was defeated by Amanda Anisimova in a match that lasted only 52 minutes. In contrast, Draper and Norrie have successfully navigated the third round, keeping British hopes alive as the competition enters its final stages.
