The US justice department has released millions of documents related to late financier Jeffrey Epstein, marking the largest government disclosure since legislation mandated publication of these files. The release provides extensive documentation about Epstein’s network and activities before his death in jail in 2019.
Epstein was convicted of child sex offences in 2008, yet evidence from the newly released files demonstrates that numerous prominent individuals maintained relationships with him afterward. His accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell, a British socialite, currently serves a 20-year sentence for her role in child sex trafficking operations. Epstein died by suicide while awaiting trial on additional child abuse charges.
Correspondence released Friday reveals that former Prince Andrew invited Epstein to Buckingham Palace after the financier’s house arrest concluded. In 2010, emails show Epstein requested “private time” during a London visit, and Andrew responded offering dinner at the palace with privacy. The pair were photographed together in Central Park months later, contradicting Andrew’s previous claims that he ended the friendship following the 2008 conviction.
Sarah Ferguson, Andrew’s former wife, described Epstein as the “brother” she always wished for in an August 2009 email sent during his house arrest. She referenced meeting him alongside her daughters and thanked him for kindness shown in front of them. Records indicate Epstein provided Ferguson with substantial financial support, including at least £15,000 toward her debts, though some reports suggest far greater assistance.

Mandelson also requested use of one of Epstein’s properties while serving his sentence. He subsequently acknowledged his error in maintaining the association but denied complicity in Epstein’s crimes.
The released documents include an FBI compilation of unsubstantiated allegations against US President Trump regarding connections to Epstein. Trump has consistently denied wrongdoing and knowledge of Epstein’s abuses, though he acknowledged a previous friendship. The justice department stated these claims were untrue submissions made before the 2020 election.
Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk inquired about visiting Epstein’s island in 2012, asking when “the wildest party” would occur. Musk and Epstein discussed potential visits through late 2013. No evidence suggests Musk visited or engaged in wrongdoing, and he disputed claims about a planned 2014 visit.
