A Norfolk man, aged 30, was nicked on suspicion of attempted murder after a three-year-old boy was dumped in a croc pit. This happened at Johnsons of Old Hurst zoo in Huntingdonshire at 1.24pm on Thursday. The suspect and the child are not known to each other according to investigators.

The lad was rushed to Addenbrooke’s hospital in Cambridge. He is currently critical but stable. The boy allegedly suffered a broken pelvis and broken arm though reports suggest the animals did not actually bite him. This was handled as a critical incident by senior officers.

The boy was apparently thrown into the enclosure. The zoo owner’s wife jumped into the pit to save the child. Witness Pete Lewis noted staff and public rushed in which likely stopped further injury. He saw the lad carried out to a trailer for first aid.

DI Verity McCann is talking to zoo visitors to figure out the facts. The police are investigating if animals attacked the child while he was inside. The MP for Huntingdon Ben Obese-Jecty, warned folks to stop speculating online about the live criminal probe.

The tropical house is shut for now out of respect. The rest of the site stays open. The zoo houses over 100 animals including Bengal tigers and crocodiles. The two biggest crocs there are named Romeo and Cuddles, per their Facebook page.

Emergency response was massive. An ambulance, rapid response unit, and Magpas air ambulance arrived. A child was transported by road to hospital for urgent care. This whole thing is a total shambles regarding security despite some claims about safety gear.

Councillor Charlotte Lowe says she cannot fathom how this happened. She believes the zoo has the right protection equipment installed. Meanwhile, the council and zoo staff just offer thoughts and prayers while the police do the actual work. It is just grim.
