Littler wins in Liverpool: the gap to Clayton shrinks

  • Luke Littler won his fourth night in Liverpool by defeating Jonny Clayton 6-1.
  • Luke Humphries is currently in sixth place and risks missing the play-offs.
  • The top four players will qualify for the finals night on 28 May.

Luke Littler secured a dominant 6-1 victory against Jonny Clayton in Liverpool. This win helped him strengthen his grip on a play-off place during week 12. He reached the final after beating Luke Humphries 6-2 and overcoming Michael van Gerwen in a close semi-final.

Despite being booed by the local crowd, the 19-year-old stayed focused. He noted that the reception in Rotterdam had been much louder. Littler remains determined to finish top of the table, a feat he has achieved in the previous two years.

Currently, Jonny Clayton leads the league, sitting three points ahead of Littler. The second-placed Littler holds a 15-point lead over Gian van Veen. Both players are clear of the rest with only four league-phase nights remaining before the London finals.

Littler showed great skill in the final by racing to a 4-0 lead. He averaged over 104 and maintained a 60% checkout rate. Conversely, Clayton struggled significantly, landing only one of six double attempts throughout the match.

Meanwhile, defending champion Luke Humphries is struggling in sixth place. With only seven match wins, he is at risk of missing the play-offs. He currently trails Michael van Gerwen, who holds the fourth spot, by five points.

Humphries suffered from a poor checkout rate of 18% compared to Littler’s 46%. Although his average was 99.39, he has yet to win a night this season. This is a sharp decline from last year when he won 21 matches.
