- The United Kingdom is expecting the warmest day of the year with temperatures reaching 20C.
- Warmer air traveling from the Mediterranean will replace the recent cold Arctic weather conditions.
- Sunshine will increase as high pressure remains steady across England and Wales this week.
The United Kingdom is preparing for a significant shift in weather as temperatures are expected to climb toward 20C. This upcoming peak would mark the highest temperature recorded so far this year. It signals a departure from the recent freezing Arctic conditions that gripped many regions across the country lately.
A southerly wind is currently transporting warm Mediterranean air toward the British Isles. This shift will cause temperatures to rise roughly 6 or 7 degrees above the seasonal norm by Wednesday. Most of England and Wales will experience conditions in the mid to high teens during this period of warming.
Wales is specifically anticipated to break its current 17.8C record previously set in Porthmadog. Experts suggest that the Midlands, north-west England, and north-west Wales could see the mercury hit 20C. This would surpass the current UK peak of 19.2C which was documented in London earlier this month.
The arrival of this mild weather coincides with the spring equilux and the astronomical start of spring on 20 March. As day and night reach equal length, the region is seeing a fast increase in daylight hours. From Wednesday, daylight will finally begin to last longer than the hours of darkness.
While northern Scotland and Northern Ireland may see some rain on Tuesday, high pressure will bring widespread dry weather elsewhere. Morning mist and fog might appear early in the day, but sunnier skies are forecast for most. The dry and bright conditions are expected to persist through the weekend for many residents.
Temperatures will retreat slightly starting on Thursday, though they should remain above the typical average for March. Even with more cloud coverage in the north, the general outlook remains positive for outdoor activities. This stable weather pattern offers a long-awaited reprieve from the wintry showers and high-altitude snow recently seen.
