Emma Raducanu mounted a dramatic comeback from 5-0 down to defeat Slovenia’s Kaja Juvan in the last 16 of the Transylvania Open in Romania. Playing in just her second match following a coaching change, the British number one stormed back with eleven consecutive games won, eventually claiming a 7-5 6-1 victory over the world number 97.

Raducanu’s remarkable turnaround began in the sixth game of the opening set when a cross-court forehand winner helped her secure her first break of serve. From that moment, momentum shifted decisively in her favor as Juvan struggled to maintain her early dominance. The top seed at this WTA 250 event demonstrated resilience breaking twice more to level at 5-5, capitalizing on three failed service holds from her opponent.

The 23-year-old showed emotional intensity as she clinched a 6-5 lead, celebrating with a scream and fist pump before converting her second set point in the following game. Her performance gained further control in the second set when she saved a break point early then broke Juvan immediately, establishing dominance that ultimately led to the decisive victory in one hour and 37 minutes.

After the match, Raducanu acknowledged the crucial support from spectators and reflected on her tactical approach. She credited her opponent’s strong play initially while explaining her strategy shift: attempting aggressive shots and executing on her own terms eventually proved effective after an uncertain start where her timing proved off.

In other British success, Sonay Kartal reached the Abu Dhabi Open quarter-finals after defeating lucky loser Renata Zarazua 6-0 6-3 following defending champion Belinda Bencic’s withdrawal due to illness. Meanwhile, Katie Boulter advanced at the Ostrava Open by defeating Swiss fifth seed Viktorija Golubic in straight sets, dropping just two games per set in her first consecutive main-draw singles wins since June’s Nottingham Open.
