- Manchester City agreed a record fee for midfielder Elliot Anderson.
- The transfer involves a club record sum of £116m.
- Nottingham Forest now seek two new midfielders this summer.
Manchester City have reached a deal with Nottingham Forest for 23 year old Elliot Anderson. City sources insist the fee is £116m without any bonuses. However, other reports suggest a total worth up to £130m, which would be a British record. This would beat the £125m Liverpool paid last summer.
The England midfielder is expected to undergo a medical soon. Forest rejected two previous offers from City before this third bid. Personal terms are not thought to be an issue. The move follows 88 appearances for Forest, where he scored four goals and reached a Europa League semi-final.
Manchester City agreed a record fee for Anderson
Anderson was sold by Newcastle in 2024 for £35m. This move was forced due to profit and sustainability rules. The Newcastle manager described the exit as « the most reluctant in my career ». He had joined that club at age eight and made 55 first-team appearances.
While at Forest, his influence grew during the 2025-26 season. He had the most touches in the Premier League with 3,300. He also led the league in winning possession 306 times. He won 297 duels and drew 80 fouls during that period.
The player is currently with England for a World Cup game against Panama. He told reporters « It’s pretty easy really I’m just focusing on the present I’m blocking it all out » regarding the transfer. He added « I’ve got a plan and it’s to perform for England. »
Forest now want to sign two midfielders to fill the gap. They are interested in Lucas Bergvall and Davide Frattesi to reinforce the squad. This comes after Anderson helped them finish seventh in 2024-25 and 16th last season at the club.
